Frequently Asked Questions
Permits, trails, packing — answers from the trail.
Browse our packages, choose your preferred dates, and send an enquiry via the contact form or WhatsApp. We will confirm availability and send a detailed booking proposal within one business day.
Most packages include permits, licensed guide, porters (where applicable), accommodation, meals during the trek, and airport transfers. Exact inclusions are listed on each package page.
Cancellations made 30+ days before departure usually receive a higher refund percentage. Closer to departure, fees may apply due to permits and logistics. Full policy details are provided at booking.
Most treks suit ages 16–65 with reasonable fitness. Some high-altitude or festival itineraries may have different recommendations — ask us for advice based on your group.
Layered clothing, broken-in trekking boots, sun protection, a daypack, and a warm jacket for evenings. We send a detailed packing list after you book.
Yes. Upper Mustang is a restricted area. We arrange the Restricted Area Permit, ACAP, TIMS and local permits as part of your package.
Yes. You need comprehensive insurance covering high-altitude trekking, medical treatment and helicopter evacuation.
Your guide is the first point of contact on the trail. Our Kathmandu office remains available by phone and WhatsApp for emergencies.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most stable weather. The Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang is typically held in May.
Absolutely. We specialize in tailor-made journeys — private groups, luxury lodges, shorter or longer routes, and combined overland options.
Upper Mustang is a restricted region. The Restricted Area Permit is charged per person per day and the rate is set by the Nepal government — it changes, so we quote the current fee in your trip proposal. ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area) is separate and is included in our packages when the route requires it.
Yes. Foreign visitors cannot enter the restricted Upper Mustang area without a licensed guide and the correct permits. We arrange both before you travel.
Lower Mustang (Jomsom, Marpha, Kagbeni, Muktinath) is open with an ACAP permit and is a shorter, easier introduction. Upper Mustang starts north of Kagbeni toward Lo Manthang, needs a Restricted Area Permit, and is the classic walled-city, high-desert journey.
Lower Mustang and Muktinath can be done in about 5–8 days from Pokhara. A classic Upper Mustang trek to Lo Manthang is usually 12–16 days from Kathmandu. The Luxury Tiji Festival Tour is a set departure built around the festival dates.
Tiji is a three-day ritual in Lo Manthang, usually in late May or early June. Our Luxury Mustang Tiji Festival Tour is planned around official festival dates. Dates can shift with the lunar calendar — we confirm before departure.
Most travellers fly Pokhara–Jomsom (weather permitting) or drive the Kali Gandaki road from Pokhara via Beni. From Jomsom, Upper Mustang continues by private jeep or on foot toward Kagbeni, Chele and Lo Manthang. We arrange flights, jeeps and permits together.
Lo Manthang sits at about 3,800 m. Jomsom is around 2,700 m and Muktinath about 3,800 m. We build in gradual ascent. Tell us about any heart or lung conditions. Travel insurance with helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
No. Jomsom, Marpha, Kagbeni and Muktinath are in the conservation area and need an ACAP permit, not the Upper Mustang restricted permit. You still need a Nepal visa. We include ACAP when it applies.
Yes, if you can walk several hours a day at altitude or prefer a private jeep itinerary. We match the route to your fitness — lodge treks, shorter Lower Mustang trips, or a fully supported overland tour with Sonam's team.
Yes. Besides trekking we run private 4WD overland tours, motorbike journeys and luxury lodge or festival departures, including stays in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Ask for a quote with your dates and group size.
Each package page lists inclusions (permits, guide, meals on trek, lodging, transfers) and exclusions (international flights, Nepal visa, insurance, tips). A 20% advance holds your dates; the balance is due before departure.
Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport, or apply online in advance. Bring passport photos, cash or a card for the fee, and at least six months' passport validity. Check current Nepal immigration rules before you fly.
Kathmandu, Pokhara and Jomsom have ATMs, power and patchy Wi-Fi. Further north, lodges often have solar power and limited internet. Carry cash (Nepali rupees) for Upper Mustang — there is no reliable ATM in Lo Manthang.
Lodge menus are a mix of dal bhat, noodles, soups, eggs, pasta and Tibetan bread. In Upper Mustang you will also find Thakali and Tibetan-style meals. Tell us about allergies or vegetarian needs when you book.
Yes. We can place you on a set departure such as the Tiji Festival Tour, or design a private trip if you prefer your own pace and vehicle. Solo travellers still need a guide in the restricted area.
